I’m honored to be joining a list of distinguished authors at the 41st annual National Press Club Book Fair.  I’ll be there to chat and sign FIVE FOR FREEDOM: The African American Soldiers in John Brown’s Army.  This is my third time at the NPC book fair.  Last time was 2015 with Chesapeake Country (Second Edition) with such notables as David Maraniss, Barry Syrluga, Paul Dickson, Nora Poullin and many others. Its interactive structure has attracted other well-known authors such as Congressman John Lewis, Jim Lehrer, Evan Thomas, Robin Givhan, Smitten Kitchen’s Deb Perelman, and Maureen Corrigan. It’s a fun night and raises money for a good cause:  Portions of the proceeds will benefit The National Press Club Journalism Institute to help equip the next generation of professionals and advocate for a free press.
