Detroit: Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History

October 16 @ 8:00 am - October 17 @ 5:00 pm

Honored to speak in Detroit on the first of a two-day conference in mid-October focused on the John Brown raid on Harpers Ferry Oct. 16, 1859.  I will be speaking about the five African Americans with Brown that are featured in my book FIVE FOR FREEDOM: The African Americans in John Brown’s Army. I will be talking also about Detroit as “the border” and gateway to freedom from which thousands of free and enslaved African Americans — includng one of the five — likely crossed into Canada following the 1859 passage of the Fugitive Slave Act.

I will post more information about this two-day event as details become available. For more about the musem, click here.
